Management and Future Implications for Sustainability
The Government and various other groups have already started on a plan in partnership with Griffith University Centre for Coastal Management. They have undertaken and are going to bring in four major projects which are:
- Three Point Plan for Coastal Protection - For this Project the Government is doing 3 main things. This involves Seawall Construction, Northern Gold Coast Shoreline Project and also the Burleigh to Kurrawa Shoreline Project. This major project will cost near to $30 Million.
- Seawall Construction Project - This means that they will be creating Seawalls at 2 main places Palm Beach and Miami, Gold Coast and they were due to start in January 2014 and the works are to be completed on June 2014. The Miami project involves creating an ocean seawall along Marine Parade, Miami. The Palm Beach Project is due to cost $1 . 675 million and the Miami project is due to cost $4 . 2 million.
- Project Kirra - This project involves the re-instatement of Kirra Groyne to its original length of 180m. It was removed to create a passageway for the Tweed River Entrance Sand Bypass Project (made to shift sand). This project was due to commence in August 2013 and finished in December 2013. The project costed a total of $800, 000.
- Palm Beach Shoreline Project - This project aims to create a very sustainable solution for the still ongoing future of the Palm Beach foreshore. This projects aims to: reduce the risk of damage to the beachfront development to storm damage, protect and if possible enhance the beach amenity for the community, provide a reasonably cost effect and sustainable solution and finally avoid any environmental and social impacts.
